Scanner

What This Means in Plain Terms

The scanner unit reported a fault. Copy and scan functions may be unavailable even if printing still works.

A dirty scan path, a jammed original in the feeder, or scanner hardware failure can trigger this.

Safe things you can try

  1. Remove any originals from the automatic document feeder and glass.
  2. Check the feeder for a small scrap of paper or sticky note.
  3. Wipe the glass and the white underside of the document feeder cover with a soft, dry cloth.
  4. Turn the machine off, wait 60 seconds, and turn it on.
  5. Try one glass copy. If that works, try one feeder copy.

Do not do these

  • Do not force the document feeder if an original is stuck.
  • Do not spray glass cleaner directly onto the scanner.

Never enter service mode or clear safety codes yourself. Those steps can damage the machine or leave a safety lock uncleared.

When to call for service

If scanning still fails after clearing the path and a clean restart, the scanner unit needs service.
