What This Means in Plain Terms
The scanner unit reported a fault. Copy and scan functions may be unavailable even if printing still works.
A dirty scan path, a jammed original in the feeder, or scanner hardware failure can trigger this.
Safe things you can try
- Remove any originals from the automatic document feeder and glass.
- Check the feeder for a small scrap of paper or sticky note.
- Wipe the glass and the white underside of the document feeder cover with a soft, dry cloth.
- Turn the machine off, wait 60 seconds, and turn it on.
- Try one glass copy. If that works, try one feeder copy.
Do not do these
- Do not force the document feeder if an original is stuck.
- Do not spray glass cleaner directly onto the scanner.
Never enter service mode or clear safety codes yourself. Those steps can damage the machine or leave a safety lock uncleared.
When to call for service
If scanning still fails after clearing the path and a clean restart, the scanner unit needs service.
